Round 1
First round and I was feeling relaxed. I was looking forward to probably getting a beating but at least it would be interesting. I didn't expect my opponent to handle the opening so badly - how different the open would have been if I had upset the eventual winner on round 1!

Round 2
I now faced a fellow metroploitan member Ian Calvert. The opening was a slightly excentric Centre-Counter defence. The opening however did not work that well for Ian and he was under some presure until I decided on a risky and speculative sacrifice.

Round 4
(4) Lenaghan,Kevin - Clegg,C [C00]
I have played Chris on a number of other occasions so it was no supprise that he played the French Defence. I should have also remembered that I tended to over extend when playing against French and Pric defensive systesms.
The opening was one of my made up anti French systems was a bit suspect but gets good results in rapid play and ICC. Fritz had a low oppion of my opening giving black a small edge for the first 10-20 moves.
The aim was simple - get everything pointing at the enemy king and blast a big hole in the defences. No long term strategies here...

Now I have reached the ideal position as far as I was concerned. I spend a long time thinking about what would happen after Ng6+ if my opponent did not take but could not see the best continuation. On balance holding for one move and putting the Queen on h2 would have been more appropriate.
