METROPOLITAN 2 VS STREATHAM 2  19/10/09

ADAM.BATSON 173 V STEPHEN.HAMILTON 154
 1. d4    c5
 2. e3    e6
 3. Nf3   Nf6
 4. Bd3   d5
 5. b3    Nc6
 6. a3    b6
 7. 0-0   Bb7
 8. Bb2   cd
 9. ed    Bd6
 10.Nbd2  0-0
 11.Ne5   Ne7
 12.h4 ?!

I didn’t expect this, wrong sort of plan in these set ups!
After the game he admitted he has never played this before
normally the moves are Qe2 with f4 at some point.

 12.      Ne4
 13.Nf3   f6
 14.Ng4   Ng6
 15.Re1?

This just loses the h pawn.
I expected g3 when my plan was Qc7 with threats on g3.

 15.      f5
 16.Nge5  Nxh5
 17.g3    NxN
 18.QxN   Rc8

I like this move it controls the c file & my intention is to
later use as defence & attack on the kingside with ideas as
g5 Rg7  & push  the pawns up etc

 19.Kg2?  Rc7?

I missed BxN PxN Nd2 Qf4  d4 +  f3 Nxf3 Re2 g5 Qc1 Nxe5 +
and white is busted and open and he is going to lose the bishop
on d3

 20.Rh1?  BxN

I get a second bite at the cherry & my bishop on b7 comes 2 life !

 21.PxB   Ng5
 22.Qh5   g6
 23.Qe2   d4+
 24.Kg1   Qd5
 25.f3    NxP+
 26.Kf2   NxP

3 pawns up with a overwhelming position !!!

 27.Rhg1  Qf3+

I know I could I played of f4, but this
just makes it simple just exchange pieces when you are material ahead.

 28.QxQ   NxQ
 29.Rgd1  e5
 30.Bc4+  Kg7
 31.a4    a6
 32.Rac1  Ng5
 33.Re1   Ne4+
 34.Kg1   Re8
 35.Kh2   Nd2
 36.Be2   Rec8
 37.Bd1   Kf6

I know I could of played  Nxb3, but why rush.
I am clearly winning & he can’t do nothing

 38.Ba3   Be4

I could of won another pawn with RxP RxR Nf3+ Kh3, NxR
but I can win  that pawn anytime without exchanging a
set of rooks! I mean look at his position he can hardly move.

 39.Re2   Nf3+
 40.Kh1   d3
 0-1

White resigns it’s a horrible position !.
He can’t stop d pawn marching forward & Nd4 and taking on c2 & b3.
If 41. cd RxR BxR RxB PxN RxB + Kg2 Nd4 & black is a knight & 3 pawns up

Chess Quotes

In London chess politics he tried the experiment of bowing all around in the midst of a fighting crowd, and he looked quite astonished when he found himself alternately kicked in the rear by different parties. Wilhelm Steinitz (on William Norwood Potter)
